Those old cartoons really can't be defended. I went looking for some one day, because I was curious about what exactly they were like. The wartime ones you can kind of understand, because it was an unrestrained "us vs. them" mentality at the time. Again, you can't defend them, but you can at least understand the mindset that went into them. But then there's the ones that were just meant as innocent entertainment, like "Little Black Sambo." I watched that cartoon in sheer amazement that there was a time when human beings thought that those were funny jokes.
